FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

LASH EXTENSIONS

WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic lashes of different lengths, curls and diameters that are cut in the shape of a natural lash and applied to each individual natural lash as an ‘extension’ of your natural lash. Lash extensions are not strip lashes, clusters or flares. Lash extensions are meant to lengthen, thicken and enhance the natural lash line without causing any pain, discomfort or lash loss when applied properly.

HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Lash extensions require touch ups every 2-3 weeks to maintain their fullness. The longevity of your extensions will vary based upon your natural lash growth cycle; if your hair grows fast, then so will your extensions, and fills will be needed more often. If you follow the instructions for caring for your lash extensions, your lashes will remain fuller longer. The average human eye sheds 5-7 natural eyelashes per day, this is 70-90 natural lashes within 2 weeks (half your natural eyelashes), this is why we recommend fills every 2 to 3 weeks. If you return for a fill with less than 40% of your extensions in place, you will be required to obtain a full set. Our rates are set based upon time and coverage applied.

DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL LASHES?

This is definitely the most asked question regarding lash extensions. The answer is NO, as long as if they are applied correctly and taken care of properly. As a certified lash technician, we are trained to place the appropriate length, width, and diameter of synthetic lash for the natural lash. Through precise isolation and the use of professional products, there should be no damage to your natural lashes. The after care is also extremely important in ensuring there is no harm to your lashes. Cleansing the lashes, not wearing mascara and brushing your lashes daily help to keep the integrity of your lashes.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY LASHES?

  • Do not rub, pick, pull or twist your extensions.
  • Do not sleep on your lashes. If you are a side sleeper, try and keep your lashes out of the pillow (sleeping on your side or your face creates wrinkles and lines on your face, in addition to ruining your lashes- incentive to not sleep on your face).
  • Gently comb the tips of your extensions with the spoolie brush provided as needed to straighten and "fluff" your extensions.
  • Never use mascara on your extensions, as this will shorten the lifespan of your extensions, cause clumping, and dissolve the adhesive. You can use mascara on your bottom lashes.
  • Never use organic solvents or oil makeup removers on your extensions, as this will dissolve the adhesive and ruin your extensions.
  • Receive regular fills to maintain the fullness and natural look of your extensions.
  • Cleanse your eyelash extensions several times per week, if not daily, with a lash cleanser

HOW ARE LASH EXTENSIONS APPLIED?

Lashes are applied to each individual lash by isolating and separating each lash away from the other so that lashes don’t get glued together. Our team has mastered this important technique. Each lash is placed on top of your natural lash, never touching the skin. We cannot place a lash where there is no lash. Our goal is to apply lashes to 99% of your natural lashes.

ARE YOU PUTTING AN EXTENSION ON EVERY SINGLE LASH?

That is the goal, yes! There might be some lashes that may be skipped, for a few reasons. Either they’re new lashes that are too short or lashes that are damaged. The number of lashes applied does not correlate to how dramatic the lashes are. The diameter, length and curl determine the overall style of lashes.

WHAT ARE THE LASHES MADE OF?

I use synthetic mink lashes, I do not use real mink. Some artists do, however I do not partake in animal cruelty, and I prefer the look of synthetic lashes. All lash products are vegan!

I WANT TO REMOVE MY LASHES, HOW DO I REMOVE THEM?

You have a few options for a lash removal, however it is IMPERATIVE that you do not try and take the lash extensions off yourself. You can either let your lash extensions shed naturally over the next few weeks, or you can schedule a lash extension removal appointment. During a lash removal service, we use a professional grade lash removal gel that is applied to the base of the lashes and dissolves the glue. After a few minutes, the lashes glide off and your lashes remain healthy and unharmed. It’s a painless, easy, and quick service.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLUSTER LASHES AND VOLUME LASHES?

Volume lashing is not to be confused with cluster lashes. Cluster lashes are a faster alternative to volume extensions, however, "quick and easy" does not mean "bigger or better." Cluster lashes are pre-made fans with 4-7 synthetic fibers bound together at their base. They usually are married at the base with a tiny plastic knot. The problem with most cluster eyelash extensions is that they are applied to multiple eyelashes at once and the bases are usually bulky from the adhesive that holds them together, which causes follicle tension. Because lashes grow at different stages, the tension from the cluster can cause premature lash loss. This can lead to a type of permanent hair loss called Traction Alopecia if done repeatedly. There are a few problems with cluster lashes. 1. They are HEAVY. The beauty of volume lashes is the weight, which I will explain later in detail. 2. They are NOT customizable. Sometimes you want a 3D fan and other times you want a 5D fan, or any other combo between 2 and 8.. 3. Cluster lashes are not applied to individual lashes. They are applied at the base of the lash line to MULTIPLE natural lashes at a time. This creates a very dense and unnatural look to the lashes. 4. Cluster lashes ignore lash growth cycles. Many people don't realize, or they forget that eyelashes go through growth cycles and every follicle is on its own schedule, regardless of its neighboring lashes. When multiple natural lashes have the same cluster of lashes attached to them, it becomes very difficult for the proper lash cycles to take place. The result is usually patches of missing eyelashes and natural lash damage. 5. Cluster lashes are not a long term gig. For the reasons stated in #4, cluster lashes should NEVER be maintained long-term. Cluster lashes are okay for one night, but any long term use will result in permanent lash damage. This is a picture of cluster lashes once they grow out - GROSS!

ARE THE LASHES VEGAN?

Yes, all the products used for lash extensions are vegan!
